Coronavirus and 7 Tips for Staying Well While Staying Home

Corona virus

Corona Virus

The corona virus pandemic has changed life as we know it. Staying home is necessary to flatten the curve and help hospitals avoid a patient surge all at once.

But with so many out of work and others turning their homes into temporary workspaces, our days now feel very different. Don’t let all these changes affect your overall health.

The good news is there are plenty of things you can do to stay healthy while you’re home doing your part.

  1. Keep moving. Your gym is closed. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a great workout in, in the privacy of your own home. With a little technology and some focus, you can have your own personal workout zone, and maybe even find a new favorite way to keep fit! Or make your phone work for you. There are so many apps out there that can help you with fitness, meditation and more, so take advantage of your device.
  2. Get creative. Remember when you were a kid and coloring, drawing and finger paints could fill an afternoon? Well maybe it’s time to bring back that childhood fun and find the artist living inside you! Being creative is good for your overall wellness, so give it a try!
  3. Take care of your mental health. These are stressful times. The uncertainty and changes to your routine can cause a great deal of anxiety. But there are things you can do to help you remain calm and focused. First, learn to relax. Take some time to learn what it means to be mindful. And try to stay focused on the positive. With so much going on in the world, it’s a great time to appreciate the good things in life, even the little things. Being grateful during this time of upheaval is a great way to stay grounded.
  4. Try some yoga. This practice has been around for a long time for good reason. The rhythmic breathing and the stretching not only feels good, but it’s a great way to clear your mind too. You’ll feel both relaxed and energized! Give it a try – it’s good for your body and your mind!
  5. Have an adventure in your own yard. Parks and campgrounds may be closed, but you and your family can find new ways to have fun without leaving home! Spring is here, so why not enjoy the weather while still practicing social distancing!
  6. Avoid the chaos. Our world is 24/7. While we have access to constant news cycles and social networks that never sleep, that may be a bit overwhelming, especially during a time of stress. It’s good to take a step back from all that and limit your exposure.
  7. Eat well. Stressful times can often lead to cravings for comfort food. While we’re sitting at home, it’s easy to wander into the kitchen or the pantry for junk food or less than ideal snacks. But this is also a great time to focus on making better choices, and maybe even trying some new recipes.

Of course, if you’re sick, you should always seek medical attention. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1. Our hospitals are still here to care for you. We also offer telehealth visits, so your health care provider is just a phone call away. Learn more about telehealth here.
